Hey there, social media manager, social media marketer, content manager or professional blogger. Or does your craft overnight another qualification? Whatever you call your profession; writing for the internet is an art. Which you are of course very good at.
Business Tales has listed the trick again. Handy for those who are less good at it.
Rule 1: Be a Ninja. Understand your opponent. That opponent is your audience; super critical and never too shy to criticize you. You have been warned. For each platform you choose a different 'angle of attack'. The weapon with which you play your audience is sympathy. Mercy is your reward. And friendship.
Twitter and Facebook – to name a few – are like bananas and doughnuts. They are nothing alike. Instagram is a completely different arena. And LinkedIn even exists in a parallel society. Know the platforms and design a unique one for each of them. conflict style. For really good internet writers, this is like breathing. You're a Ninja.
Rule 2: Develop a clear 'voice'. A good brand has a rock-solid image. Finding the tone – the voice – takes time and is a never-ending process. Perfection? Forget it.
The tone of voice must fit your brand and your audience. Is your brand young and hip and your audience just as fluent? Your tone is also that. Does it have to be businesslike and professional? Then do that. As a writer for the internet, you must always be 'in voice'. Present the voice at the right time, exactly as your audience expects it. Deviate from that? The audience will mercilessly walk away from you. Be a Ninja and a chameleon.
Rule 3: Always be critical of yourself. Self-confidence is the blood brother of Indifference, and before you know it you’re doing business with that smooth-talker. The playing field of social media is vast. The temptation to just throw in the towel is ever-present. “It’s okay” is never far away.
Surprise: it is never 'okay'. Always stay sharp and focused. Be your own supervisor. The worst there is. Remember; image comes by sailboat and leaves by speedboat.
Rule 4: Data is everything. Oddly enough, this rule hasn’t gotten through to the average social media strategist, manager or marketer. Or whatever you call yourself. You’re definitely not average. You know; data is the foundation. You can’t know how to get what you need to be the Ninja without the correct dataWe will come back to this in a later blog. We'll be back soon.
Rule 5: Be a sophisticated Social Media Ninja. The social media landscape looks different today than it did yesterday, and it will continue to be innovative tomorrow. On the one hand, new tools, dashboards and apps it easier for us. On the other hand, studying these innovations is a time-consuming study and the purchase is usually an expensive affair. By the way, you can prevent mistakes by asking your colleagues. You can also save time by working with scripts. And we say it again: know the data, learn to interpret. Without substantiation, you are nothing more than 'another person with an opinion'.
